  1. Wanna know something really weird that works? I was experimenting with coloring epoxy to fill in file work. I found a small container of black cake frosting dye, I thought what the heck. I will say that a little went a long way! It also made for a slightly faster setting epoxy. I think it was alcohol based so it evaporated quicker. But it worked, turned hard and stuck well. It is also slightly translucent if you used just a small drop or two, which can add a really cool effect.

  6. This is cool. I used powdered Iron once A couple years ago. It looked like black/gray metallic paint with the epoxy. But, I considered the whole thing a failure and pulled the scales off and put new ones on. I actually have a pic on my Facebook. The Idea was way better in my head. Wire inlay was definitely the way to go. What does your inscription say? I studied the futhark and then looked up words to put on a blade once, but I don't know much. RITHER THIK RATHA? Whats that mean?

  7. I have mixed it with a drop or two of oil based paint, like they use to use for models. I have also used India Ink. As well as now they have Alumilite casting and stabilizing dyes! The last one you can buy on Ebay as well as Turntex Woodworks! It is available in small bottle where you can add a drop at a time. That allows for mixing the color you want! https://www.turntex.com/product/casting-with-alumilite Alumilite casting and stabilizing dyes are also available at most craft stores. Hobby Lobby carries them!!

  8. India ink will work, but you only need a tiny tiny amount. One drop will color up to 25-30 ml of epoxy. Mix it with the resin, then add the hardener.

  9. Ok, I don't know about Japanese blades, but if you use a hard backing block (steel) for your sand paper, you should get a nice sharp transition. Moving the paper at a different angle above and below the bevel line will help you see how sharp it is, and make adjustments if necessary.
