Nice boar Lin.Must of had your heart racing.Did you see the picture over on Bladeforums of the monster killed in florida,1100 pounds(no joke).I guess you would need a broadsword for that.boarhunting is one of the best hunting oppurtunities here in California but I doubt you could take a animal with a knife here.My .30 will do just fine!

  9. Some were lacquered others used patina.no secrets on the subject, you should be able to do a serach here and on the web to answer your question and to get specific recipes.If you dont find anything I'll go through my books and post some recipes.

  17. Thanks guys.I researched this site and see you are also doing this.I had not thought about flash from edge quenching as I clay coat my blades and do full immersion.I dont know if I will switch to salts but I feel more informed.

I have been marquenching using high temp flourinated oil believing it was safe to do so because of the high flash point.I have recently found out heating the oil causes vaporization of the oil at the surface posing a risk of flash fire during quenching.A very scarey possibilty. I would like to know if you can marquench 1070-1080 in low temp salts or if i should just do a interupted quench and then into the high temp oil? If salts are capable,does anyone have some design plans?
  19. What about case hardening it like they use to do to low carbon steels.I dont know much about the process but the idea came to mind and i thought i would share.
  20. You all should have seen it in person,it was fantastic and the only thing wrong with it was i couldnt afford it. P.S. both Dan and his wife are quite friendlly.
