  3. its a single edjed knife. but its more of a art object. the whole knife is going to have a angular sence to it.
  4. i have a problem. i need some opinions on tips. im trying to deside if i want my blade to curve to the tip or have the trantition be a angle then a straight section.( pictures will come later)

  7. so (sorry geoff for asking twice ) what would be the recomended tempering for a 5160 steel knife that is 3/8 an inch thick and needs to hold a fairly sharp edge.
  8. i know what you mean. i drive my dad crazy, bear feet, bear back, only shorts. but its funny the only time i get burnt is when he wont stop bugging me about "protective clothing" and i get distracted and end up geting third degree burns(from the hot steel landing prefectly on top of my foot). ps. ash is good for the skin and scaring little kids
  9. hi ummm i dont want to sound like a complete idiot but what does this mean "and triple draw at 400F". Geoff was talking about tempering and im clueless to how long tripple draw is.

  14. this is a pig hunting knife about 6 inches and will be used to kill wild boars by stabing them throught the heart. made out of 5160. needs to hold a edge well. im going to clay temper it so it has a soft body and a hard edge.

  17. hi im making a spring steel pig knife and am not sure what oil ishould use to quench it. would clean car oil work?
  18. yeah ill probably have to find a junkyard(apperintly in hawaii there are no scrap steel yards ) just find a old flat steel car part i can use.

  20. i know. im confident shaping all thE surfaces.........except the bevels. all i want is a jig tHAT i can use to grind the bevels to a perfect 20 degree angle(or as close as possible)

  22. hi a little while ago i asked about belt grinders and were to get them. alot of you said that files would work well so im embraacing this step down from power tools. . now i need to know about jigs to use them in. (also any advice on what files to buy.)
