    Hey, quick question... What steel would be best to use for a crossbow prod? I know most would probably work ok if it is given a proper spring temper, but I am looking for something a little more specific.

      No, it is too strong. Weak acids: very dilute ferric chloride, lemon juice, and vinegar work better. Multiple cycles, cleaning oxides off, between, are necessary.

      Waxed linen is the standard. Linen does not stretch like synthetics and is very strong.
