Hey Mike... you think too much :0) Personally, I think that straight-hardened and drawn, as well as diff hardening, both will make better blades overall than "straight-hardened drawn-back spine"...which is really not doing at all what most folks think it is. But ya know, if it makes a good blade, the customer is happy, does it matter alot? If it gets sharp and stays sharp who gives a crap.
  2. Used it lots, works fine. Has a typically thin habuchi like most of the higher carbon simples, lots of ashi clay will break it up and make it more interesting.
