  2. Finally finished a real nice osage orange recurve bow after working on it all week. Shot great, after about thirty arrows, it was my new favorite bow. Then somewhere around the fiftieth arrow, the upper limb shattered.

I grew up shooting draw side, didn't know it was "improper", so I have a head start there. I don't think I'll ever reach the bar that was set by the video, haha. I'm just happy when I can hit my targets!!!

When you make your bows, what tools do you use? I'd love to try my hand but have no idea what I'd need to even start, other than a draw knife for beginning the shape.

When I go for a solid fuel, with my little brake drum forge, I use Coke, more often. I purchase it from Ebay, usually in a 25-50lbs box. There's often guilds around locally that do spring and summer orders for truckloads of the stuff. Join, volunteer to help bag/box it on delivery day, and you may walk home with some.

  4. Remembering what a goldsmith told me twenty years ago- "One well-informed criticism of something you've done, no matter how much it stings, is worth more than the next twenty quick compliments you get."
