Well, she is a lab...;) Mine is eight years old, and still a pup! All she lives for is to play (and eat).

Great thread, love seeing everyone's beautiful dogs.

  2. I'm a beginner myself, and I'm using a lesser machine at the moment (a Kalamazoo). That said, a friend of mine makes some gorgeous blades using a Pheer 454. He even tried to talk me into buying one, but it was far over my budget. Also, sit tight; the expert folks here will have plenty of alternative suggestions for you as well.

  5. Thank you! I'm toying with the idea of making a few 20" versions of these when my next batch of steel arrives.

I try to pick out wood that will look good with it's natural coloring. I don't stain it; I just use Tru-Oil to finish it. I found a gorgeous piece of white oak at Rockler last week, can't wait to put it to use...

  8. AS13 & AS14: Fantasy Skinners/Fighters

In the fantasy realms of our favorite stories, folks have to eat too, don't they? These knives could be used to skin the bounty from the days hunt, or as close range fighters.

The specs are identical for both pieces:

    Steel: 1075

    Handle Material: Bird's Eye Bocote

    Overall Length: 10 & 7/8"

    Blade Length: 6 & 1/2"

    Handle Length: 4 & 3/8"

POB: -1/4" from front edge of handle

    Weight: 10 oz

Heat treated by Lyndle Driggers of J&L Cutlery

  9. Thanks Kevin! When my nephew asked me to make this for him, I had a tough time finding a good screenshot to use so I could make my sketch. I almost had to watch the movie again and take my own photo...as if I needed an excuse to watch Dune again! As much as I love the film, I really need to read the book, as I have not yet read it. My brother tells me the film doesn't come close to doing the book justice...

  10. AS11: Blade of Emperor Shaddam the IVth

    Handle Material: Yellowheart
    Overall Length: 13 & 1/8"
    Blade Length: 9 & 1/8"

POB: 1" from front edge of handle
