Howdy, I started forging my charcoal knife (a.k.a. bamboo splitting knife) and I wanted to run my expectations by the forum. I started with a piece of 12 inch by 3/8 inch by 2 inch leaf spring steel. I quartered it. One of these 1 inch by 3/8 by 6 inch pieces should weigh approx. 0.6375 lbs. I used weight charts for steel flat bar to calculate what length of blank I could draw out to 3/16 by 1 inch. I came up with 1 foot. I'm expecting to get at least a 10 inch by 1 1/4 inch chisel bevel blank. That doesn't include the short tang length. Let me know if I'm way off. Wish I had a picture of a roughed out blade, but I fried my blower controller and had to stop forging. I was able to get the first heat in and my little forge brought that stock up to HOT fairly easily.

Well I've finally finished the Rebar blade I've been working on. I'm not exactly sure which design I when't with. If you can tell me what kind of blade I made please do. I just made what came naturally to me. (I haven't cleaned the oil off yet or sharpened)
