So I'm trying to make a raindrop Damascus cleaver but here's the kicker... I only have 2 inch wide steel. And my cleaver has to be 4 inches wide by 8 inches long. So my question is. Should I press the Damascus layers wide wise so I can reach teh 4 inches and have enough layers to reach the 8 inch long goal. Or can I make 2 Damascus layer 8 inch long billets and forge weld them side by side and then punch in the raindrop patten. If I widen instead of lengthen will it affect the pattern? Thanks,

Hi all so I've successfully made Damascus steel but I was wondering how the normalizing quenching Temps work. For example I made 1080/1095 cannister Damascus. What temp do I use for thermo cycling the 1080 o the 1095 Temps? Also I've made 15n20/1095, 15n20/5160. What parameters should I use?

Hello Everyone. I would like an experienced opinion on what is wrong with this blade. I recently purchased a large Damascus steel knife, but upon receiving the knife I noticed it had a cavity on the edge of the blade. The seller insists that this is normal and was intended by the blade smith. He says it is an "intentional groove". Why would anyone put a groove into the edge of a blade?? I feel like it is a mistake ,most likely from the forging of the damascus, and the seller should admit it as such. Why would anyone put a groove into the edge of a blade?? Thank you for your input.

Hello everyone. As I wrote earlier, this one is the cuter brother of my "Rainbow in the dark". Same billet, same construction, different handle materials. And blade design. I don't have the specs because it's long gone but it's somehow similar in size the his brother. I didn't make the pouch, my friend Francesco Nova from Rome, Italy, did. This was my first international job, it went to a friend and good customer in Belgium. I hope you, guys, enjoy.

Hello everyone, This is a little folder I made a while ago... The blade is 3 bars, 2 of which being twisted "W" pattern 1070 and pure nickel and the cutting edge being regular twisted pattern, O2 and 15N20. The mechanism is back lock with the spring being one solid piece with the back, which is fully fileworked (inside too). The back/spring is 5160, bail in Titanium, all pins are Titanium, damascus bolsters, snakewood scales (cut offs from a baroque violin bow blank), 304 liners. Leather box hand tooled and stitched, it also works as stand by a small notch in one side of the box. A small mirror allows the owner to look at the other side of the knife when he's not holding/carrying it. Or, the box can be used as small make up trousse for his wife. It was very hard to detach from it... I hope you enjoy... Take care, Francesco
