I just finished 2 plasma cut blades. How should I go about heat treating the blades after sharpening? I only have an oxy/acetylene torch to heat the blades so how should I go about it. The blades are made of mild steel about 0.77 in wide and about four in long. I would upload a photo but I forgot my USB cord.

This is my first attempt at making a blade. I decided to go with some cheap mild steel for the first few so I can save a little money while I work out my initial flaws in technique. The first few blades were bound to be less than desirable. The over all length is 8" Blade is 4" Handle is 4" The wood is just a chunk of wood from the backyard.. No sense in getting crazy on the practice run. I pinned it using some old .22 caliber bullet shells just because I had them laying around. I thought I'd attempt some filework just for the practice. I'd really appreciate some feed back, Thanks..

I was wandering if it is possible to take regular mild steel (table legs, steel cans, fridge doors etc.) And make it usable for knifes. I was thinking about making a tatara/bloomery and processing it through that instead of iron sand. Of course it would have to be cut up real small but I enjoy the extra work as long as it's not a waste of time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
