Bought a whole bunch (about 30) of old Canadian made files made by Globe. Does anyone know the alloy content? Few of them are worn out and will have a second life slicing stuff. I acknowledged most file companies use batches of whatever fits the specs but still... Thank you folks!
Hey, I have been trying to source some good files for a week or so, and I am wondering where you guys order your files from. right now, I have a 12" mill bastard hardware store nicholson, and I have heard that the hardware store files are cheaper quality. anyways, I have heard lots about simonds multi-kut, and nicholson magicut, but i seem to be having a hard time finding them somewhere I can order them from. Also, related to this topic, is what is your favorite files in sequence from course, to final file before sandpaper? are double cut any good? can you go both ways, or do you only "draw" or just "push" the file? Don Fogg on Arctic fire 2021 demonstrates files cutting both ways. I trust Don's experiance, but is this the correct way? I'm curious. Sveinn
Hey folks, I was perusing my local surplus store, and found their selection of files. Some of the names I know, Simonds, Nicholson, and Grobet, but the rest are new to me. Any names stand out as worthy of purchase in bulk? Any to stay away from? List of brands: K&F AXE K&F Mexico Simonds USA Simonds Nucut USA Simonds Nucut 2nd cut Johnson USA Johnson USA 2nd cut Nicholson USA Lenox USA Grobet USA McCAFFREY USA Wood Miller India Atkins(?) Silver Steel USA Heller Nucut USA Globe(?) Marcott & Campbell(?) Vixen USA I did buy some already, 3 12 inch Grobet double cut, a 16 inch Johnson 2nd cut, 14 inch Nicholson Canada, 14 inch Simonds Half round 2nd, and a 12 inch square"black diamond" USA. Are these reputable files or did I waste my money? Thanks for your time. NOTE: I asked if the files they had out was all they had in stock, and apparently they have "bins full of them in the back".
