Need a couple fire bricks
Garrett Carper posted a topic in Beginners PlaceHello everyone, im brand new to this site so if this is a dumb question please tell me. I need a couple fire bricks for end caps for my propane forge. Unfortunately in my area (SW Florida) it is impossible to find fire brick within 150 miles. I’ve found a few recipes for refractory cement but again the only materials I can find around here are Portland cement I-II, perlite, crushed silica, hydrated lime. Has anyone experimented with this recipe and would it suffice as a temporary fix until I can build a new forge properly?
Where to buy fire brick
Coleman_Pilkington posted a topic in Beginners PlaceI've been forging with a coal forge for about three months now. although coal forges have an authentic feel and grit to them, I would like to build a propane forge. I though of making one by using fire brick, but if there's a better way, feel free to say so. Q: Where can I buy fire brick? Q: Is there a better alternative?
Cracked Fire brick forge
B_St.Laurent posted a topic in Beginners PlaceHey guys so i have a little problem with my fire brick forge, ive had it for less than 2 days, and it cracked all the way from top to bottom halfway through the length of the brick. its a soft fire brick that i drilled a 1'' hole through it longways and then a 1/4''hole in the side to the 1'' hole, i shoved the nozzel of my propane torch into the 1/4'' hole and started forging but now only a day later the crack is there, it didnt happen through the drilling process i know that much but it sucks that this already happened i was hoping to have this last for awighl while i grasped the basics of forging atleast. thanks for the help guys, -Brandon
