  1. Getting Married

So, 1 week from today I'm getting married. Normally I wouldn't post this to a forum or really the internet at large, but this is slightly different. That is because I ordered the engagement ring from our own @J.Arthur Loose. It can be seen on his FB page here. I just wanted to say here how great he was to work with and how much he helped picking sizes, stones, everything. Obviously the craftsmanship is fantastic. I also got lucky in that I was able to order the wedding band sets from him too. All three rings fit us perfectly. If anyone else is thinking about going that route for their rings, I definitely encourage you to at least think about contacting J.Arthur Loose. I certainly am happy I did, as is my soon-to-be wife. While I'm here: We are going to the greater Yellowstone area (mainly staying in Montana) for a camping honeymoon. Seriously, how lucky can a guy get? She wanted a damascus ring and to go camping and fishing for a honeymoon! If there are any recommendations anyone has for a MUST SEE or MUST DO thing on the west side of the park (or outside of it), please feel free to share. So far the Lewis and Clark Caverns and Old Faithful are the only 2 big things specifically on our list. Other than that just camping and fishing in Montana and seeing the park.
  2. Stainless Damascus - how to do it?

Greetings, gentlemen. I recently tried to do the stainless Damascus for the first time. In my blacksmithing master's shop (not having my own yet) we followed instructions by Ariel Salaverria to the letter (http://www.aescustomknives.com/docs/tutorial16.htm). On the first attempt, the container burned through after several minutes, hence the stacked steels were too cold to weld. We thought that perhaps the temperature was too high or there was too much WD40 inside. Hence, on the second attempt we put paper soaked in WD40 only on one end of the container and we poured out WD40 after squeezing it inside. We also started with slightly lower temperature. Result - after several minutes the container exploded, scattering burning coke around the shop. Luckily, nobody was injured and the shop didn't catch fire, but it wasn't very nice. Please see the attached picture of container after it was recovered. Any ideas how to do it properly? Is there any other way to do stainless Damascus in the forge? It is a simple coke-burning forge. Many thanks!
