I am happy to say that I just got a new job managing, organizing, and teaching knifemaking, blacksmithing, and metal fabrication classes in Brooklyn! Metal Shop Fantasy Camp (I didn't choose the name, haha) currently offers introduction to metalwork and welding classes, and I am coming on to add beginner knifemaking and blacksmithing classes. I got the position because of the success of my test-run of the "Forge your own bottle opener" classes, and am now going to be able to offer a wider range including several types of knife making classes. Classes start in a couple weeks, I will follow
I wanted to take a moment and post here, since it hasn't been mentioned yet. Bladesmith Nate Bocker, myself, Jim Crawford, and a handful of others have been working to start a non-profit entity dedicated to the teaching of forging (broadly, not just knives, though they are an obvious focus) to wounded veterans. Nate started this as a hobby, reaching out to the Warrior Transition Battalion at Ft. Belvoir, and it has grown powerfully from there.
