  1. Hey everyone! I want to acknowledge right away that what I'm doing here is questionable and very much non-traditional. In truth, I'm not quite ready for the challenge of a traditional blade made in a traditional way, but I hope to get there someday. This project aims at taking what I learned from a wakizashi I made last year and attempting to 1) not make the same mistakes again (only new ones are allowed!), 2) improve on the technique I've been learning and developing for this particular style of blade, while 3) also aiming for a greater challenge. This katana's constru
  2. I completed my first (and so far only) sword almost exactly a year ago, a hira zukuri wakizashi with wrought iron cladding. The construction is san mai with a 1095 core and a 15n20 contrasting layer. The cladding is twisted wrought iron and O1 tool steel. The blade was not deferentially heat treated, so no hamon; there would not have been much room for it, and I felt it would visually compete with the cladding. Besides, I was in over my head already with this project so I thought I'd stick with my regular HT routine The engraved habaki and seppa are brass and the tsuba, fuchi and
  3. Hi guys, I'm currently working on a project involving using old tools from a silver mine. The age of these tools could be everything from 400 - 100 years old. I don't know which period these specific tools are from. Beneath you see a picture of the tools in their current condition: The piece of iron I've used - is from the long bar underneath the chisel. When forged out and ground down - it looks like this: I see it has lots and lots of cracks like this. Is this something that is normal for this kind of iron? Or should I try to draw it out and forge weld ov
  4. Hello! I´ve got this little chap for sale! It´s based on several finds in central Europe of the 9th century (Great Moravia to be specific). The whole knife is about 16cms long, forged out of wrought iron with a forge-welded tool steel edge. The scales are antler, lightly decorated, and there is a simple sheath accompanying the knife, decorated in the same style as the knife and coloured with hot lard. Enjoy ! Price is 130USD/ 100Eur plus shipping
