A learning weekend

Recommended Posts

Well I had an interesting weekend at the FAll FABA conference. Steve Bloom, a knifemaker from Archer, FL put on an a very good demonstration of heat treating with his salt pot rigs on Saturday (that is until the rain got too bad and he had to shut the rig down) and today he clay coated a tanto made from 1050, heated it in a charcoal fire and quenched in water.

I also got a nice treat this afternoon, Tom Clark gave a nice impromptu demo. He really knows his stuff, he can make a nail in nothing flat! Actually making nails looks like it would be a excellent excersise and warm up before working on other things, not to mention learning varying degrees of hammer control.

Other than the fact it rained all day yesterday and drizzled all day today it was a great conference!
