Introducing Rhenaissance steel

Recommended Posts

Yeah, so you got a patent pending for an innovative metal- congrats are definitely in order, but Jerry what are you going to forge from this stuff, and when are you going to forge it?

Keep some perspective, man!

:P;)

Heh, that's all I wanted. Just some cool steel to make a knife out of. :D

Funny thing is, I made exactly what I set out to make. It just turned out so unexpected that I thought it was just another catastrophic failure. When it wouldn’t convert to martensite, pearlite or any-ite, that's when I started showing it around to metallurgists, and Scott produced a phase diagram. They all said the same thing; see a patent lawyer straight away. :)

Seriously, if I can get some good hardness, the toughness is built in, in the form of austenite. It should make a dandy blade steel, although a wee expensive.

The very first thing I need to find, is the optimum forging temp….

Just curios. Can you consistently reproduce this alloy?
