Nick Steele 0
=D O-1 and mild. This was only a test, to see if i was capable of making the stuff, and I've got to say, I'm pleased with the results, even if they weren't what I expected... 'Kay then, next time it's more and thinner layers, foldin' and pattern manipulation, with a view to making a finished knife! I had a strange thought the other day. If I were locked in a room with a copy of myself, i wouldn't like me very much.

Bob Ouellette 78
Just remember this about welding. The more surface area you have, the better chance of something going wrong, ie. cold shut or slag inclusions. If you keep your billets short, narrow and thick until you're ready to forge it down to the final thickness. Good luck. Nick Steele 0
Nick They both look good thanks for the pic what are your plans for them? Bob Short wide one goes on the shelf, next to the failed billets, for posterity. Longer one is going to be folded a few times later, to 144 or so layers, and turned into a knife. I should get it done before the week's out, if my supply of charcoal holds up I had a strange thought the other day. If I were locked in a room with a copy of myself, i wouldn't like me very much.
