5160 spring steel for sale

Recommended Posts

I have opportunity for anyone interested in purchasing 5160 spring steel. These are brand new, formed coil springs in 3/4" Dia. x 14" and weigh approx. 15.7 - 16lbs ea. They were supposed to be LH turned and the mfg. screwed up and turned them RH. Since they are mounted in a cast puck they are useless and must be scrapped. I am trying to figure out if it's worth buying 2400 lbs. of this steel and selling it for $1.25 to a $1.50 .lb plus shipping if I can negotiate it. Please give me some feedback, Are you interested?

Dennis,

100lbs. of new 5160 for $125 to $150, plus shipping, is a real bargain. At that price I would be tempted to pick some up just because it was inexpensive. How much do you anticipate shipping to be though? Cutting the springs so that you could fit the pieces into USPS flat rate boxes would probably dramatically increase your sales. Granted, it would involve a lot of extra labor. The manufacturor of the springs may have the means to cut these easily, perhaps you could make it a condition of the sale.

15.7lbs (one spring) in 3/4" round comes out to about 11 feet, 3 inches. Just in case anyone wonders how long these are when unwound.
