Pre-built venturi burners...available everywhere

Folks,

Last night bas a bit chilly in the garage and the thermostat is hard to reach because someone parked the boat right in front of it. It was easier to open up my ice fishing chest and grab my propane heater. I started it up and then it dawned on me that this is nothing more than a fancy burner on top of a venturi system. I quickly slid the burner off and then put a straight pipe on it with an air inlet hole. My pipe was copper as thats all i had handy, but it worked. Simply light and you're ready to go. These are available in sizes from small to large and in configurations of 1 to three burners. It seems to me that this is basically a pre-made forge burner. They can be purchases at sporting stores, fleet farm stores, even at wal-mart. It's something to look into. Included is a link to the site of the big name manufacturer. I purchased my heater years ago for about half the price. I think mine is "day-glo" brand.

Have you ever thought about the life of steel? It's interesting to think that you can control the fate of a piece of metal.

How about a used RV water heater unit ? You'd need to replace the control valve but those things put out a LOT of heat , and shouldn't be hard to find or too expensive .

Im not familier with that water heater but ours have a sort of gas ring like on a stove lit by a pilot light as the water is turnd on to keep the water hot as new cold flows in ?

i was thinking more the Bar B Q type burner or a prtable camping stove set up so you could be right about your type

of RV water heater ;)

I made this for a friend the blower parts are water fitting's with a blank off inserted /drilled out and tapped with a 6mm thread screw in two mig tips i use oo6 fit the rest up as seen to tap then to regulator on the propane tank be sure to use 1/2 diamiter pipe and fittings right from the propan tank to burners easy to do and gets well ito wealding heat

hope this helps you can use an old compressor tank or car propane tank be sure to vent the propane for at least a week prior to cutting take all fittigs off to vent fully always safty first , here ar picks of the insert pipes into the tank again water fittings i weld a stainless sleave in first then these slide inside of this so everything can be taken apart for easy replacement rough cost all up $200 aust

I mentioned the water heater because they are a venturi setup and throw a monster flame , not like the one in your house . If you have an RV , just light the WH then watch and listen to it . I don't believe you'd need to hot rod it any ,

just change out the control valve , and I think it would be real easy to add a perforated tube to make a forge . I haven't done this yet , but I will . For anyone who decides to check this out , the flame goes through an aluminum tube so if there is no water in the unit , it will wreck the unit in a short time . The aluminum tube would be replaced with steel for a forge though , so that wouldn't be a problem .

I agree i dont like Gal eather but the pipes above dont get hot the flame is created were the stainless flare comes out

this is the outer guide pice i was talking about the gal pipe merly transfers the gass to this point and will not get hot

enugh to even cause a hassle THANK GOD or it would be out the door faster than a lizzard drinking mate ,

but a good reminder thanks
