Wooden Tsuba

Recommended Posts

does anybody know if these would have existed seeing as the tsuba really isn't a gaurd, it just keeps your hand from sliding up the blade.

On the flipside, if there were wooden tsuba, they probably wouldn't have lasted due to the test of time.

[dunno]

from what i have seen in my years of martial arts study and the limited amount of time i have spent researching blade smithing, i have not come across a wooden tsuba.

however if they did exist they were probably used on early bokans. (not sure on the spelling)

if your not familiar with the term a bokan is a wooden sword much closer in resembelance to the wakasashi blades.

current bokans utilize a plastic or pollyurathane tsuba.
