neil gagnon
here is a cable katana I made last year and finally had time to finish. The blade is 29 inches long and is marquenched with water brine. The handle is 12 inches long and is made of ash with a full ray skin wrap with brass fittings and my own wrap i've been working on.Tsuba is made of steel my own design. The saya is made of poplar with steel fittings on both ends. It is a beefy blade and razor sharp hope you like. Ben Potter
Beautiful work, Love the hamon. John Smith
Oh man that is sweet I hope mine turns out half a s nice as yours John W Smithwww.smith-forge.orgFire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Crom is your god, Crom and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, Conan. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered. And the Earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Conan. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts.[Points to sword]This you can trust
C.Anderson
Wow! Love that hamon...and the profile of the blade is very nice. The whole thing just looks aggressive =). Two questions though.... First, how do you marquench into water/brine? I thought marquenching was quenching the blade in to a medium that is just above martensite start? Just looking to learn something =). Second...do you have a link to higher resolution images? That blade's stunning =). Cris Slow is smooth, smooth is steady, steady is fast, fast is deadly... Sam Salvati
Very awesome Neil, thanks! jpadilla
Wow! That is a nice blade. Do you plan to finish with a traditional handle? Jesse
neil gagnon
Thank-you for the compliment, not sure what you mean by traditional handle. I like to stay away from the whole traditional thing usually starts arguments. And I never claim to do so with my blades.
