Don't know if this is the place for this. Admin. please relocate or dump if not appropriate.

I have been at this for about 20 years, very trusting. Send knives and materials all the time on trust. I just got burned and almost financial disater.

Dead Beats: Got burned by two guys that never paid, found out they do this often to others on the forum. Can we get a DEAD BEAT list going? Ban then from then forum. We all make about a $1.85 an hour and don't need these theives.

Fraud & Scam: Got an email from a guy that wanted to send me drawings for an order, get them all the time. My IPOD recieves emails, use it in the shop for photos. Got the file and it had software to upload my files hidden in it. I only have tunes and some photos on the IPOD, no secure stuff. The file was VERY big, didn't seem right. Took it to an old laptop and it locked up that computer and started to try to send my hardrive to a location in Isreal.

Can we get a fraud and DEAD BEATS area?

I'm glad this didn't turn out worse for you. We dealt with a bout of identity theft a few years back and it was not a thrilling process.

Have you ever thought about the life of steel? It's interesting to think that you can control the fate of a piece of metal.

Can you forward me any information you have on this? Like names, IP Addresses, and copies of the Emails sent with addresses.

I do not keep any financial records on my computer and suggest that people on the forum learn the same thing. Get yourself a old computer to use on the internet, limit how much information your willing to give in Emails and such. If you do need to use a computer for finances do not ever connect it to the internet or or any kind of Wireless connection anywhere.

There are people now just driving around all day trying to connect to peoples wireless connections to get their information. All you need to hack a bank account is a correct name and Social Security Number. These people are very smart about how they do this, if its local they can use your own information and address to open credit card accounts then steel the credit cards right out of your mailbox without you having a clue.

Having a blacklist is a good idea but there are issues associated with it. For one thing misunderstandings do happen but in cases like this its obvious these people are scamming from the get go. Bladesmiths can be easy targets as not many here are what I would call Techies or even Savy about the internet.

I sent this to my cable provider, they sent me a tracking as best they could. The email was a dump, actually in Egypt, but used an Isreal IP. They figure these guys hit all kinds of small vendors that do not have good protection. The file was weird in that it had a Jpeg. and a BIG text file. The picture would not open, so I figured there was some directions in the text file. When I opened it my security nailed it.

I use Micro Trend Security, nailed it, but locked the computer. I restarted and all is OK. The file asked for passwords and access to bank files.

One thing that you might want to check to make your computer a little more secure is to go to My Computer, click on Tools, then Folder Options, and go to the View tab. Make sure that "Hide extensions for known file types" is NOT checked. I'm not sure how much computer experience you have, but that option will hide the ".jpg" and ".txt" filetypes on file names, so someone could send you a file called "image.jpg.jvs" and you wouldn't see the ".jvs", just the ".jpg", making it seem like it's an image file when it is actually a Java Script. Hope that helps, at least a little :)
