stick Posted February 7, 2009 Share Posted February 7, 2009 Hey guys, heres my latest kukri-like blade. I was fiddling around with different designs, and settled on this one. Kinda like a regular kukri, but more agile? I had an idea what I wanted for the handle, but in the end I just kinda sanded it , tested the grip, sanded it tested, ect, until I came up with what you see. really snug grip now. In the future I will try water to quench to get a nicer hamon, but this was done in peanut oil. Not great, but I can live with it for now. Now the hard part is trying to design a sheath/scabard for it. Any suggestions? Anyway 1095 19.25" total length , 3/16" thick, 2" at its widest. 14" blade POB 4" in front of handle black micarta handle weight 23 Oz. may come in handy incase of zombie attack! I love this type of knife, no fluff, all practical. As far as a scabbard, look at some originals, always liked the wooden-core traditional type with a thin leather wrap. I found this new 3m sharpening paper I tried on this guy. I'm liking it until I find a stone combo to replace the paper with. Anyway the final grit was 180,000! HA ha ! I thought it was kinda rediculous,but I had to give it a shot. Now it has a nice mirror finish edge I would like you all to see better. Herb K. thanks man. The sweetspot is actually about 2" behind the apex for more of a chopping cut, although I would like to make another one with it dead on the apex for more of a piercing effect. GEzell, thankyou Sir for the suggestion. I'm torn between the traditionalwooden sheath you suggest, and something modern and tactical. I'm headed aver to the leather store to see what they got now. maybe that will help with my decision. yep this chopper is all business. I currently reside in washington county oregon, and soon I will be moving to either arizona or North Carolina! Kevin Hey Kevin, Sounds like you will have a great day on your Bday! a little forgin, a little Cod,a little forgin! I started with 2 1/2" x 3/16" flats stock from admiral steel. Might be easier to do the same , but you could probably forge one out of what you have just fine. I didn't really take any progress pics of this one unfortunately. I'ts going to be a little out of the ordinary,but I'm gonna try and make it work. the handle is black linnen micarta. I have a block of it laying around so thats what I end up using.
