Nugui receipies?

Recommended Posts

I have made my own kanhada (spelling?).  I was amazed how finely abrasive it is.  I filtered it 3 times thru a coffee filter and have a very fine powder.  I know that one element that can go in is cinnabar which is a mineral that I believe can chemically stain the metal.  Basically my question is what nugui receipe is suitable for modern steels.  I havent got to the folded steels yet so this would be used on mono-steels.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cinnabar is an ore composed of mercury and sulfur, I'd be very cautious with it. If I recall correctly, just heating it can produce metallic mercury, and who knows if polishing might make enough heat to decompose it. It can't be good for either the steel or for your lungs.

It's applied with a cotton ball so no real danger.  They do derive mercury from it though.
