Matt Stagmer
We have these cups sitting around that are way to thick, so we didnt have much use for them. I decided I would try faceting the cup just like a pommel to take the wieght off and this is what came of it. I think it turned out awesome and I am already preping for a spiral faceted cup. I only have one fuzzy shot of the blade. It is one of our standard diamond ground rapier blades. As always comments welcome! Matt Stagmer
At the peeks it's about 12 gauge and on the flats its about 16. "ART SHOULD HURT" www.BaltimoreKnife.com BKS' Facebook
Matt Stagmer
The POB on almost all of our rapiers is about an inch from the hilt. On this one I think it was right at the shoulder. I didnt get too many stats for this as it went in a box about 2 mins after it was finished. Doug Lester
The rapier/small sword is probably my least favorite sword but looks like some great work. Doug Lester HELP...I'm a twenty year old trapped in the body of an old man!!!
Matt Stagmer
The rapier/small sword is probably my least favorite sword but looks like some great work. Doug Lester Thats a shame becuase in many ways the evolution of craftsmenship ended up in small swords at its best if you ask me. Some of the detail work is out of this world on originals. Thanks though. I just feel that when I make a rapier blade that I am making something special each time. Even when I do a dozen at a time it feels that way. Matt Stagmer
Thanks fellas. I had fun with this. I am starting to get back to my roots with making things I enjoy at least one piece a week. THis was just a standard BKS stage sword but I think the spiral may deserve a damascus blade. We will see. Been trying to talk Kerry into making a wootz rapier blade. hmmm. Brent L
Matt I know this isn't exactly fair of me to ask but do you think you could do a tutorial on rapier making? It's always been one of the things that peaks my interest. Beautiful blade though, love how it turned out. Alba Ghu Bra Brent LaCroix

Doug Lester
What did George Silver say, "useless in war and teaches our friends to kill each other in peace". You are right that there are some great examples of art work associated with these styles of swords. Many of them were more status symbols rather than weapons intended for self defence and were relatively seldom drawn in anger (stupidity). My main interest in swords is the European single edged weapons which tend to be much more utilitarian a plain looking, though there are some very artistic examples of these weapons also.
