Camp Knife/Short sword

This one I made out of 3/16ths 1030 hot rolled. Stock removal with an angle grinder again. The notches on the spine were a mistake, as I had no intention of ever hollowing them to true serrations. It has been heat treated and is VERY tough. Last camping trip, that was all I used to gather firewood and as long as we didn't miss and chop the rocks, it didn't get a blemish. The handle is twisted copper over wood scales, with solder to add weight and the balance point is about 1" past the hilt. It's ugly but tough.....

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”

a better man than me first said that, but I say it today.

i like where you were going with the handle a little more refining and you just may have some thing there

tho you might want to step up to a 1060 or better at some point

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'd like to try this again with some 1085 or 1095. I really like the balance and heft of this thing, the handle is unrefined but it feels great. I would like to make it not so ugly. I definitely would not do the shark tooth stuff, might not even go double edged...
