Richard Furrer
I had a request recently to forge that bar into a sword. Ric Richard Furrer Door County Forgeworks Sturgeon Bay, WI
Matt Stagmer
I would have had to take that request. Working modern wootz is fun and all, but working with an old piece would just be a chance not to miss. Of course you prob have done it before Ric. I dont think I would be able to take it to the induction. Would have to go coal with it. Matt Stagmer
"This is a rare and original 18 C. steel ingot from India, made of wootz, already partially forged to a long ingot shape, ready to be traded and forged into a wootz blade. 810 Grams weight, 10 inches long, 1 1/4 – 1 3/4 inches wide and 10 mm thick. One face of the ingot was partially polished and etched to show the clear wootz structure. Unique piece for the weapon collector, steel researcher or blade smith expert." Howard Clark
I had a request recently to forge that bar into a sword. Ric I take it you passed ? It is a commission fraught with risk, working someone else's expensive material, of unknown composition or soundness. I would not take that job. LeeO
There is also the other half,or at least anther bllett on the available page too,8"x8mm also a very interesting pata with a wooden gauntlet as opposed to the more usuall steel ones, looked at first to be a blued gauntlet, some beautifull works on the site, Ric, could you get a shamshir blade out of that bar?
