Well here is an update onthe moroha Tanto, I have been working onthe saya and tsuka. I love alder wood, however it is a very soft wood and messing up means tossing it if you have gotten to far into the work.

What about stabilizing the wood before working? Obviously not a traditional method, but it would certainly increase durability and help prevent those "Oops!" moments.

The point was not to increase the durability of the wood, I want it soft so the lacquer and such will make it more rigid. Opps moments happen when one gets in a hurry as I do at times. But stabilizing the wood is not a bad idea though. Maybe for a future saya and tsuka.
