shortdog
Here's one I finished a little while back. Blade is 5160,7 1/2". Guard is wrought iron from an old wagon whell a friend gave me. Handle is whitetail deer antler with leather and rubber spacers.I'm still debating on leaving the tine on the antler. Overall length is 13" I'm still working to get closer to where I want to be. I guess we all are, but I'm happy with where I'm headed so far. All critiques are welcome. http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o153/wcroom/HPIM3900.jpg I'm gonna go read how to post images... Edited January 22, 2010 by shortdog Hammering away at reality. Tim Lonnee
You are definately in the right direction to where you want to be.Personally I would take the tine off.Looks like it is out of place and uncomfortable. To my old overworked eye it looks like the spacers are a bit small as well.Still all in all I like the beast.Good solid blade that will work for you for a long time. Will look good as you wander the bush.Got a brother that lives in the mountains in NC. Loves it there.Great job on the knife sir. I am not the expert some of the folks here are, just a driver that likes to play with hot steel.Have a good one.... shortdog
Thanks Tim. I've been advised to remove the tine by others, including my left handed wife. I just can't bring myself to do it yet. The spacers were done out of frustration after trying to get the antler to mate to the guard. Two leather washers and one rubber one. I had them all fit up, and when I epoxied the grip on, I realized I had put the spacer on upside down. Kicked myself for that one the whole time I was trying to work that back out. Where in the mountains is your brother? I spent a couple of years working around Asheville, Brevard, and East Tennesee. That is a beautiful part of our State, and there are some really neat people there. My wife wanted us to move there once, but the idea of walking uphill everywhere I went did not appeal to me after having to do it while working. Hammering away at reality.
