Substitute for Fiber Spacers?

Recommended Posts

I love liners/spacers and I'm trying to think of different materials that I can use to serve the same purpose. I've cut up a plastic trash bin (it was broken and thrown away)and that gave me some nice black plastic spacers. However epoxy adhesion is only so-so on this material no matter how well I prep it. Would a thin leather work? After all, people do stacked leather handles. How about a single layer of cotton t-shirt material soaked in epoxy?

Let me hear your creative spacer substitutes!

Thin layers of brass, copper, silver, nickel and stainless steel all make nice spacers.

gasket material from the auto parts store works, too, & there's at least a couple different colors, depending on how "hot" your blade is..... ;^)

I'm often using thin leather and always between guard and handle

I like using thin g10, it works really really well. I prefer .014" thick for liners and a little thicker for spacers. You can buy it from www.alphaknifesupply.com
