I have been updating my shop with an eye towards being able to craft simple pieces faster and at a more affordable price. Finally I have gotten the process more or less worked out with these results:

cutlass1.jpg

Overall length: 30 inches

Weight: 1lb. 7oz.

Blade: 15N20, 25 inches long, 1/16 inch thick.

Grip: full tang, hard maple with fencer's knot.

Guard 1/8 steel

Primary node: 15 in below guard guard.

Secondary node: 1 1/2 in above guard.

Point of balance: 3 in below guard.

Pivot point: 3 in from tip.

This is a "scratched" blade and has cut a variety of materials (quite well).

Ben they look great! I'm guessing blades that long are really flexible at 1/16' thick?

Did you go with 15n20 because it's easy to get in 1/16"?

Best of luck!

What sort of price would the Messer be? I suspect some in the HEMA community would be interested.

The messer was $275 and is sold. These pieces will be in the $200-500 price range. I will be getting a website up this week and will be posting more information.
