Hogan Baker
Hey guys, so today i was splitting logs in a 20 ton log slitter and my finger got caught and it pinched half of my fore finger right off ! Boy it did and does hurt. Anyway, i got it reattached by one of the best hand surgeons in the area who thankfully was in the building at the time. He said that i have only about a 20% chance of keeping it. So, i would appreciate some payers. i get to find out in 10 days.... ~hogan baker sorry about the bad typing, i am only using one hand. VaughnT
Dude, get on some garlic oil. I kid you not, that stuff is amazing at healing cuts and other sundries. Take it internally and apply the oil on the wound. Works wonders. Can't tell you how many scars I DON'T have because of that stuff. Make sure you get the stuff that smells. If it doesn't smell like garlic, they've burned out the sulfonamides that make it work. Promise it will make you feel tons better and have a good chance of helping that finger stay where it's supposed to. When reason fails...

Alan Longmire
Ouch indeed... Good luck with it, I know that type of injury is really unpleasant to say the least. Heal up fast and hang on to that finger, man.
Orien M
I lost most of one digit, and damaged another, in a circular saw accident back when I was 16...I feel your pain! You'll probably get all kinds of people telling you terrible-hand-injury stories while you're healing up...seems to be human nature. (Man, did I ever hear some bad ones! One involved some sort of gang-nailing machine used for making wooden pallets...yikes.) I barely ever notice the missing finger now, but little kids do seem to find it very entertaining . Hope your surgery heals up perfect... My hand-forged knives and tools at Etsy.com: http://www.etsy.com/shop/oldschooltools

Sam Salvati
Remember all those stories of doctors saying "you'll never walk again" and the person learns to walk again, strength of will is the key! good luck Hogan, I hope for your complete recovery! in the off chance you do lose the finger make sure they don't throw it out!!! that's some primo knifemaking material hehe (just trying to cheer you up!) deker
Ouch! Do as the docs say, take a good multivitamin to make sure you have the basics for healing available to your body and an extra Zinc supplement will aid in soft tissue healing a LOT. Good luck in the healing. -d

Greg C.
If all else fails, you can always Gorilla glue it back on . It could be worse, you can manage without a few fingers, but a few more inches in and that would have been your HAND, thumb and all. Prayers to a quick recovery. B Finnigan
Yikes!!! I am sorry to hear that. I hope it heals up well for you. As mentioned above no too far from me is the UW and the training hospital has been seeing great success with leeches. Vascular surgeons have good success with re-attaching the muscular arteries but the problem is almost always the return flow with the veins. And blood stays inside the tissue and does not circulate. So the leeches act like a vein and suck the blood keeping it circulating. They also secrete a natural anti coagulate which also helps keeping the blood flowing through the tissue. Cool stuff for sure. I could handle that with no problem but when it comes to maggot therapy I would need drugs. Lots of drugs. Get well and keep us posted! Everything I need to know I learned from the people trapped in my basement. I'm out of my mind but feel free to leave a message.
Hogan Baker
Thanks for all the prayers and get well wishes. The doctor mentioned the sterile maggots, but luckily he has a little whirl pool thingy that does the same thing. The doctor couldn't really give me much info about my finger when i went to his office on monday. Half looked black and half looked normal ish. But he said it probably was better then it looked. One good thing about getting my finger mangled is that all the rest for my right hand should get rid of the carpel tunnel. ~Hogan Baker Edited December 26, 2010 by Hogan Baker "Stale water is poor drink.
