Wow that sure does take you back! I've been reading a lot about old bowie type knives and the different styles and that really is a great example of some of the ones I've seen! It really gives me a feeling of the time and I really love that! Great knife and great thing that it sort of seems to tell a story!

Very nice! Care to translate for those of us who don't read Latin? I could puzzle out much of it, but would like to know for sure.

and thank alan for finishing tips on this piece. i didnt get the etching to stand out like i wanted. still, pretty pleased with the final product.

the motto translates roughly: this hand, an enemy of tyrants, seeks peace by the sword with liberty undisturbed.

hi all,

i had wanted to share a photo of the whole etching.

a difficult shot considering the shine and mottled patina.

so that its more clear, the image is a hand holding a sword by the blade with a banner wrapped.

thanks to my father in law john for the photos.
