Sigh... Add me in. I have succumbed. As long as I can come up with a design (sometimes hard for me) I'll be in and (hopefully) ready by March. I don't want my address out on the net, so I'll give it to whomever I need to later on.

One question, what exactly are the criteria? Just anything with a mythological or tribal style? Does it have to have a story (fictional of course) behind it?

Thanks Dave!

i cannot decide if i should make mine as WIP

Well, if I have a vote I'd definitely vote for WIP.

I have probably learned more from WIP posts than from any other element on this forum.

It does take a lot of time/effort, however.

Is it too late to be added to the list? I have never participated in a KITH but would like to contribute. I understand that the knife must have a tribal or mythical theme? My son is filling my head with ideas from his overly-active nine year old imagination. I doubt a 20' sword would be easy to ship so I will limit the size a skosh. Is there a link to a post about the particulars? Thanks, Troy

theme - mythological or tribal - with a story, not necessary to be real tribe or mythology

i would give it maximum and minimum lenght - 5 - 15 inches

if not folder sheath included?

I would ask some of our administrators, one of those used to make videos to make hat picking and post it to youtube, that would be done after the deadline

Original thread

I'm guessing one can join the KITH at any time up until the last day, as long as the knife is finished by the due date, March 1st.

I think my question is "better" here than where it is now...

I have a question :

I was very often created a tale to accompany with knives I produced.

Do we have to "follow" an "existent myth" , or can we create our "own myth"?

I've an idea around a "post-apocalyptic" myth <_<

Re-posting from the original thread:

Oh. Heck. YEAH!!!!!!!!!

Why didn't someone tell me this was going on?!?!?!?!?

I am *so* in on this.

It occurred to me this past year that when one buys many things (in particular a custom blade, but also things like a sports car, a gun, etc.) one isn't just buying the functionality of the item, but the narrative that goes with it. There doesn't necessarily have to be a written down story to go along with it, but if you look at a blade and say, "Man, that looks like something you'd fight off mutant cockroaches with after a nuclear war!" or "Man, that looks like something I'd want by my side kicking in doors in Baghdad!" or "Man, that'd be just right for carving up a roast boar in the mead hall!", then you are buying the narrative.

This is the absolute *perfect* opportunity to play with that concept! And with this cast of bladesmiths, you're bound to get something awesome! At the same time, the bar is high, and you need to be sure that what *you* make is awesome! I love this.

I will need to let this stew for a bit, but I will get on it!

Count me in even if I have to get Tai Goo to let me use his forge and tools as Our place burned to the ground in June.

Most of my forge tools and hammers etc are gone. Ah but life goes on. Onec we get a new house built I will rebuild the forge setup.

I'm not going to say I'm in -- but if I finish a blade by next March, I'll be in. If you don't hear from me by the deadline, well, that means I'm not in. :) I've long thought that African tribal blades don't get enough attention. Some of them are pretty incredible, and the array of designs is mind-boggling.

Hey guys, I'm gonna have to drop out. I just got a job, and that, mixed with my welding classes, gives me sunday afternoon as my only workshop time. I'm gonna try and make a knife for it, and if I can, I'll join back in, but I don't think I can pull it off, so don't plan on me being in.

Stephen.
