Dragon Knife

Recommended Posts

Since I don't have the time to do a kith knife I haven't been looking at the entries. Boy, did I miss some good stuff! :o

I love the whole thing, Petr, from concept to where it is now. No doubt it will only get better! B)

thanks gents!

Peter: As you are good friend, i wnt to shop and completely spoiled (burned) the front bolster. So i could make another one and take pictures, its very easy to do :-)

first you mark the ridge with chisel, slightly on soft surface, like leather to lead you

this is groove making tool

after first go it looks like this

then you flatten the edges with hammer

this is what you get, i went once more through the process to smooth it

then just bend and solder :-)

i realy need some solder with lower melting point, this is stressful

Much appreciated!

It´s always been the bending of a ridge that has put me of trying this. I shall not hesitate any more. Thank you for showing :-)

Very useful technique for all kinds of mountings and bits.

Peter:

The secret is that you use quite thin sheet and use the ridge to reinforce it. I used 0,6 mm and it behaved like 1,2 mm, if you use too thick, it might be a problem.

Jacques: I love soldering, but i like soldering silver, this brass is thin and melting points are too near for my unexperienced self

I was recommended a solder with a melt point around 160-180

very very low.

The rivet makes that eye look real!

I don't know if I could have a knife that always stared back at me.

Joking aside, that is beautiful work.

Thanks for sharing the process.

thanks! this one was realy fun to make, i wanted to try some new things on it, and revise old, that i wasnt able to master before. All in all it has some flaws, as my pieces alway have them, but i am quite happy withe result and new door it opened to me!

Its fun to make these free fantasy pieces, as you can train techniques without pressure - nobody knows you had to change the plan :-D
