matt ross 0
is there any good way to predict what the hamon is gonna look like from the clay?
John Smith 4
Matt I am of the opinion that the steel will do what it wants to do, no matter how the clay is layed out. I have had my hamons follow the clay perfectly and then the next time I get someting completely different. Now I have noticed that by quenching in Parks #50 my hamons follow the clay much more closely, so I will assume that any good quality oil quench will do the same. When you do quench post some images so we can see.
Christopher Makin 2
A lot depends on the steel you use.Carbon steels with low Mn will tend to follow the clay more closely particularly medium to low carbon steel. Then it is a matter of varying thickness of the clay.Experiment with it.
