Google books has a preview (actually almost the complete version) of this 900 plus page volume The Knight and the Blast Furnace - A history of the metallurgy of armour in the middle ages & the early modern period (Wow, that's a mouthful!) The book is primarily about armour, but there is info on swords, and iron and steel making. The book is about $360 new, although the publisher, Brill, is out of stock.
