Jesus Hernandez
This is a 13 minute video of the making of a W2 katana. The fittings are inspired by the bamboo paintings of Zheng Ban Qiao and the blade shape by Kiyomaro. I will upload pictures when I have a chance. Enjoy life! Alan Longmire
Whoa.... Jesus, that is a masterwork, both the katana and the video editing. You Japanese-style guys really need to come up with your own order like the Fiery Beards, because you certainly have earned whatever it is...The Flaming Bamboo? The Fiery Hamon? Smoldering Zen? I bow in your general direction!

SBranson
Wow... I thought I would only watch a little and then the rest later but I couldn't stop.. Beautiful beautiful work.. and a really great little video. I really like how you clamp the blade for polishing. Are you using a holder for stones or are you using paper? Thanks for posting this. Great fittings! - Stuart www.sbransonknives.com

JDWare
Thank you for posting this Jesus. It was very inspiring to see you working and how easy and simple you make it look ....... no tricks, no secret techniques or tools, just a mastery of the same steel, wood, sandpaper, grinding belts and files available to all of us. K. Bryan Morgan
It would appear to my very untrained eye that Mr. Hernandez has done this a time or two. A beautiful piece sir. If I can ever get 10% as good as you I would be very happy. Bryan Virtuite et Armis (Virtue at Arms) http://kbryanforge.wordpress.com/

Jesus Hernandez
You Japanese-style guys really need to come up with your own order like the Fiery Beards, because you certainly have earned whatever it is...The Flaming Bamboo? The Fiery Hamon? Smoldering Zen? I dunno. I like the concept of a Fiery Beard. Maybe you guys can extend it rather than coming with something new. Or maybe I just need to make a seax one of these days. Enjoy life!

Dan O'Connor
OH MY!! What a great job. As Allan said both sword and video. For those of you that are not familiar with the Japanese way of doing things, here is list of individual craftsmen and their associated tasks related to creating a fully mounted sword. 1. KatanaKagi- Creates the Blade 2. Togishi- Polishes the blade 3. Habakishi- Creates the Habaki 4. Tsubashi- Creates the tsuba and probably the Fuchi/Kashira and Menuki 5. Sayashi- Makes and finishes the saya The fact that Jesus can encompass all of these skills so well as well as make steel from time to time is astounding. Yea-I think the order of the fiery bamboo shoots or something is in order here. Dan Scott
Excellent video! I've had a lot of questions on japanese forging styles, and it's very nice to see how a katana like that is made. The forging scenes especially are very informative, and very well put together. Thanks! -Dan Corvus Forge

Kevin Colwell
Jesus - outstanding. Thanks for taking the time to document the process. Beautiful sword. If anyone creates an Asian order inspired by the flaming beards, it has to include Chinese (or should, hint, hint). Flaming chopsticks! your work is inspirational. You seem to be really growing in the direction of working copper and alloys. Your skills at working metal for fittings is impressive. take care, kc Edited December 28, 2011 by Kevin (The Professor) please visit my website http://www.professorsforge.com/ “Years ago I recognized my kinship with all living things, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on the earth. B. Norris
Or maybe I just need to make a seax one of these days. The heck with a seax, how about a falcata! Do one of those, with accurate materials, geometry, fittings, and sheath. The Fiery Beards would not be able to deny that your beard is ablaze! Wonderful video by the way and an outstanding katana but...
