Phew...Made It (My Kith)

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Well, after cracking my first KITH attempt in a marquenching experiment, this is what I got going as a replacement. It's either a "Goleuku" or a "Leukulok", half golok, half leuku. In any case, it's a big ol' chopper...the blade is shear steel, 9" long, the handle and scabbard are walnut. I tried some "limed" chip-carving, and am still trying to stabilize the lime, but otherwise the knife is done. I hope you guys like it!

You guys (and nobody else, probably  ) may appreciate this: I tried a strange thing with the distal tapers on this blade. The spine tapers fairly heavily, from 3/16" to around 1/8" at the tip, but the edge does not taper at all...the result is a weighted sweet spot, which gives it quite a ferocious chop. I like the geometry for choppers, and will probably make more like this.

I love it man! That's a great idea with the distal taper, and no edge taper. I hope to draw it so I can see how it feels in the hand.

oh yeah and your wooden sheaths are always very nice.
