Large Recurve Bowie

Here's one I started this week. Got the bevels rough ground and I'm wating for some new belts to continue.

I am looking for some opinions on the aesthetics of the knife.

Specs: Blade is 3/16" thick and is 10" tip to plunge, the handle is a shade over 5" and the blade is 2 1/4" wide.

Thanks for looking,

Brandon Sullivan

For what you did, I think that you did it well. It appears to have a nice balance to it and nice lines. I hate to sound like I'm damning it with faint praise but that's just about as good as you're going to get from me with that knife design. It's one of my least favorites. Your workmanship does, however, look good. I'd still be interested in seeing how it turns out once it's finished.

Doug,

Thanks for your honesty and your kind words. I agree the design isn't for everyone.

I personally like that knife design.. It looks like a very strong multipurpose knife that you could do anything with.. I like large Tactical (I have seen that to some on here that is a bad word)style knives.. what are you thinking of using for the handle?? please post more pic's when your done ..

Thanks Glen

Yes, I think that tactical too often gets translated into fighting. To me a true tactical knife is one that is primarily a heavy duty utility knife that could be pressed into service for a close encounter of the worst kind. Another thing that give tactical a bad name is that it is often applied to some of these ridiculous knife shaped objects that are part knife, part saw, part entrenching tool and totally ill conceived.

is it flat, convex, or hollow ground. I can't quite tell, it looks like it may be a hollow from a big wheel.

I would humbly suggest flat with convex edge or full convex.

Maybe take the bevel a little higher to give a more shallow relief. If I was making it, I would do that to get the most out of the width. But, that is not a big deal, with a blade this wide, there is probably enough bevel there, anyway.

(big rant about "tactical" deleted so as not to ruin your thread with my opinions)

sorry again. very nice knife. Consider bolsters, making the grind go a little higher. Forgive me ranting.

edited to add: the more I look at the blade, the less I think you need to raise the grind level. It just, "looks" right, and it is wide enough.
