Dave Stephens
All: I've been at this one since May! Glad it's finally done. I've named it Járnfjall, which means "Iron Mountain" in old Norse. I do realize this is a Medieval blade, but it didn't sound as cool in Latin or Old/Middle English. Fittings are blued mild steel. Grip is ebony and twisted bronze wire. There are some minor symmetry issues, but overall I'm pretty pleased. The carved mountain in the ebony turned out pretty cool. Here are some photos. I'll post another of me holding it along with the specs on final weight, pivot points, etc. this evening. As usual I took a LOT of photos. Sorry, can't help it. I get excited to share the details when I'm finally finished with a piece. Thanks for looking! --Dave <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UzU48AQMQc38Nh2j_0xk-tky5VF6_FQEqFJOi8z_AEs?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bZCVj0hPEYg/UGTdF1LDIDI/AAAAAAAAC1A/qkM47JRbII0/s800/IMG_4069.JPG" height="599" width="800" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; John Page
Spectacular! You should have prefaced it with Drool Alert The name is very fitting, and not only because of the fittings I'm glad to see everything come together so nicely, what a journey! Matthew Parkinson
looks great Dave, I have one with a simular grind that I just finished the heat treat on.... so I feel your pain on the symmetry... Tyler Miller
Dave, I've enjoyed watching this sword come together. It seems like nothing about the process was easy or straightforward, but wow--that's got to be some great payoff, holding it and looking at it. It's a really successful piece, I think. It invites you to examine it, and every fine little detail rewards the process of examination. And screw the symmetry issues! Any machine can make a perfect blade, only the human hand makes sublime imperfection.

Troy Christianson
Yes, the "Drool Alert" protocol is over-ignored on this forum. I therefore open up each thread with a plentiful supply of paper towels and a mop handy. Sure was nice to have such preparation ready for this beauty!
