4 unused Ed Caffrey forging hammers - one is Damascus :0)

Recommended Posts

Aloha,

I bought these 4 hammers directly from Ed Caffrey with the full intention of using them. I am sad to say they haven’t touched an anvil or hot steel once during their stay here in Hawaii :0)

Got them and put them away and forgot about them during a period when I wasn’t forging at all… cleaning out the shop and moving things around and found them …

These are great hammers but I’m already using and used to my Hofi style hammers and sure hate to have these just sitting in a drawer and not pounding hot steel :0)

They had a little bit of surface rust from sitting… so I got out some oil and 600 grit and got it all off in no time… and re-oiled them while they sit waiting for their new owner(s).

The weights for each are displayed on my postal scale.

I believe Ed has the descriptions of these hammers on his site if you would like more info on how they are made or want to order one directly from him. He’s super guy and wonderful to deal with!

There is one very special hammer that is Damascus forged by Ed and I don’t believe he has these available very often. I purchase it for $400 and will send it off to a new owner for $Gone shipped insured… (hopefully it will spend some time with hot steel as it was intended to do :0)

The other 3 are available for $Gone each… shipped insured…

Heads are all polished as they came from Ed and so anything you see on them is dust or the oil protecting them… the Damascus hammer peen has the Damascus pattern left on it and the other side is polished….

Hopefully these great hammers by Ed will find new homes and forge some amazing blades and tools!

Thanks for looking,

K

Are these for right or left handed Smith's?

Angle peen hammers are made for better ergonomics/machanics. So it won't matter which hand hammers and which hand holds the steel. The steel will draw out either way.

Everything I need to know I learned from the people trapped in my basement.

I'm out of my mind but feel free to leave a message.

Rrespectfully, Quote from Ed the makers site does not agree with your statement.

"I must emphasis that the angle peen hammers hammers must be forged for either right or left handed use, so if your ordering, please ensure you specify right or left handed. Double drawing hammers are ambidextrous."

That being as it is I am interested if they are made for a left handed Smith. The reason for this is that they are designed to flip over and continue working without having to re-position the metal or yourself.

I apologize for not getting back to you with an answer sooner.

I am right handed and ordered them from Ed as such.

I've taken a couple pics with the hammer in my right hand at the anvil so those that might be interested can better decide if these are right for them...

Hope this helps...

Update on availability

2.12 is gone to a new home :0)

2.99 is gone to a new home :0)

Thanks for looking all and again I apologize for any confusion I might have caused here...

I have several angle peen hammers and got the angles transposed in my head:wacko:. Although these could still be used LH for widening work vs drawing.

Hi Craig,

super! The hammer just arrived at my home,

first impression was that it looked like Thor's hammer in its package,

then I unpacked it

and it really looks great

can't wait to use it
