I'll probably be stoned for what he's doing with wootz.

I enjoy trying different procedures


welding of wootz.

Combination Shear: wootz + C45
+80CrV2 /1620 math layers /

Turkish walnut

total length - 205 mm
blade length -100 mm
handle length -105mm
max width -30MM
thickness of the blade -3mm tapering to the apex to a sharp


hardness around 60HRC


I still am learning wootz etch so as to be visible structure.
It is still a lot to learn.

Very impressive that it could be done at all.

Was the shear, something you made, or old wrought converted shear?
From the pics., I'm trying to figure out what you did. Is it stacked, folded, both, or some kind or San-mai?


OK, I figured it out.

Very cool looking. Very nice looking blade.

That is very nicely done. Not the first time that I've heard of someone welding a billet to give a different appearance to both sides but your's does look very interesting. If I remember right the other person used two different pattern welded billets together to give the each side a different appearance.

Fascinating work sir. I knew this was possible, but I did not know it could be done, if that makes any sense. My understanding is that wootz needs to be worked in a very narrow temperature range in order to keep the dendric structure intact, this temperature range being well under welding temperature, if it gets too hot, the pattern is lost (I could be entirely wrong here, I am not by any means an expert). Yet, I have seen antique Indian blades where it was welded to other materials, so I knew it could be done, I just have no idea how.
