Anyone know where to find a good belt grinder?

Okay, so I've been searching around the forum and haven't quite been able to find the answer to this question. I mostly do stock removal, and my current tools consist of a vise and a hand-held angle-grinder. These tools are good enough for now, but eventually (when I have the funds) I'd like to get some more "professional" equipment. Does anyone know where I should look for an affordable belt-grinder?

Ouch, $1000? Well, thanks for the quick suggestion. I do very much appreciate it. I'm off to mow some lawns. Lots of lawns...

The general advice I have read on here and other boards is - there is a *HUGE* difference between a "good" grinder and the $100 Home Depot grinder.

If this is a hobby you will stick with the general rule is save your money and just buy one of the "good" ones - you will end up buying one anyway (Or making one, but I'm not that skilled)

...

Good luck!

I just got the Coote grinder with the 2 x72" belt, 10" contact wheel, and glass platen I LOVE IT for about 700-750, you simply can't beat it!

No one said this would be simple...

$120 for a Craftsman 2x42, but I buy good belts. There's a difference between it and a variable platen on a KMG, no doubt, but not enough to keep me out of business. If you invest in good consumables, learn the fundamentals, and don't try and push a belt past its useful life, you can get some real work done. It will certainly be better than a hand-held angle grinder.

Thank-you all for your help! It's so wonderful to have an oasis of experienced craftsmen here on the internet! I'm definitely feeling much more confident about where and what to look for. Again, thank-you all for being AWESOME!
