Tagane blanks from Comokin in Japan

Recommended Posts

If you are looking for tagane blanks, Comokin does ship internationally. They require payment in advance via electronic funds transfer, which makes complete sense to me.

Their contact email is comokin@comokin.co.jp, and the order page for tagane is here http://www.comokin.co.jp/shopbrand/004/002/X/

I'll probably be ordering from them in the near future.

The only probem is shipping. I've ordered from them and they charge a flat rate of $150 for shipping until you go over a certain weight, then it goes up. Not to mention the bank fee for transfering to a different currency, and import duties. It's not worthwhile unless you order a very large quantity.

I still have a few HSS blanks I'd be willing to get rid of, or for non ferous stuff I would suggest getting some of Patricks Hastings tools. They will be cheaper, less hassle, and more suited for American sized hands IMO.

I stopped by their store in Ueno Japan last month and picked up a few blanks. They are TINY! Unless you have small hands I'd recommend making your own. I know HSS is nice, but properly heat treated W1 or O1 should get the job done. Also, you can get 9 feet of 1/8" x 3/16" W1 from Onlinemetals for about $10 and make a ton of tagane.
