Finished some stuff...

This Summer, before I head off to college, I wanted to try to go full time as a knife maker and swordsmith. Here's some stuff I have recently finished up. Two edc/carving type knives, a little bowie esque hunter, and a sheath for an old hearth steel knife.

Materials in the first two are oak, birch bark, copper and 1075. One of 'em's got an African Blackwood bolster.

This guy is 1084 and 15n20, mild steel, brass, wrought iron, and wenge. I
was playing around with textures in that one, so the wenge is wire
brushed to bring out the gnarliness of the grain, the wrought iron was
deep-etched and allowed to brown, and the guard was glass-bead blasted. I
think it came out well :) I dont know if you can see how well everything worked together from the pictures...

Trying to capture that spirit pattern :)

You may have noticed that I put my name in the corner of each picture. Pretty soon I'm gonna work up a digital version of my makers mark, all stylized and whatnot, to put inits place. All in the effort to look more proffesional . Anyway, I noticed some of you havedone this, and copyrighted your pictures as well. How do you go about that??

Thanks,

Luke

Pro work, Luke, hope you keep it up! I like those first two the best..... . :)

When I was in school (film) I was told that if I took my script and mailed it to myself it

was copyright protected as long as I did not open it.

That may only be here in Canada but it is a really easy and cheap way to get a little bit

of legal protection.

Luke I have to say your work is always inspiring and look forward to seeing you progress

as an artist .

Godspeed with school

Im really digging the last 2. Not that the first ones aren't great but, the last ones are more up my alley. I like EDC bushcraft style. That and tactical blades & choppers.

Great knives! I especially like the one with the wenge handle.

While Im no expert from what I remember there are several types of copyright. Some you have to get 'approved' (i.e. patents). Some you essentially just have to say its copyrighted and it is. It helps to have some way of 'proving' its yours. Such as a watermark or timestamp. Or as Geoff said, mailing a hard copy to yourself. :)

Thank you everybody. I think if you upload to Flickr your stuff gets copyrighted.
