Forged this from an old file. Guard also and old file. Handle reclaimed from old cross peen hammer. My daughter n laws' great great grandfather served in the civil war. He fought battles at Chickamauga,Wilsons Creek,Pea Ridge,Vicksburg,Corinth,Resaca. Was a POW and was shot once. Good old Missouri boy.

Wow, beautiful Bowie! I love the old confederate Bowie style. How long is it?

Looks good, it has a rustic but deadly look to it.

I like the whole esthetic. Blade and guard go well together. I don't know if, on period pieces, the ricasso was flush with the cutting edge, or whether it was rebated to be a choil or something. Either way, that is a nice one. probably a lot of knives from the period done both ways anyway.

great idea, too.

Kevin, The same thing went through my mind when grinding the blade. Then I remembered that I started out wanting to build a knife that I would be proud to give a young man that was going into battle. It was fun.

Glad you liked the knife.

Thanks

I love file knives, and this is a great one!

One of my great - greats was also at the Battle of Corinth (and others) but on the other side since he was a good old Minnesota boy. Also a POW but not shot, lucky for him.
