Bruno
A true master of the craft you are Sir. I'd take that blade to war. Steel addiction can be a problem. Should we start a charity or something so the less fortunate can soothe there souls ? Either way Sir, the Elves would be proud.

JPH
OK all.... This is getting a bit too "esoteric" here...Like I said I will be finishing this one up once I get a few more iron mounted blades ready to blue...as it's a 4 to 5 hour process whether I do 1 set or 3 dozen.... I mix my own blue salts (the ingredients are getting harder and harder to get thanks to the gubberment...) and do pretty much everything in house as they say... I will be walking the blue process through on this thread so.... Anyway..I am off to get some rack time.. Why is it when the Mighty Thor throws his hammer he is dispensing Justice and fighting Evil..BUT..when I throw my hammer I wind up in a mandatory 16 week anger management course??</p> I came into this world naked, screaming and covered in someone else's blood...I have no problem going out the same way... JPH
Hello: Sorry about the long hiatus on this...had some things that just popped up and set everything back but the projects I needed to complete are done and the rest of the photo series are as follows.. (WARNING VERY PHOTO HEAVY) I just hope that these come up in order..but they are pretty self explanatory if you can follow my feeble picture taking attempts..I am NOT in any way a photographer..so be warned.. First photos are of the blade, fittings, grip and the raw leather sheath. This sheath is a single seamed one from 9 Oz leather..really stiff and quite a bit stubborn to work with considering my leather skills are beginner level at best. ( I gotta learn how to do leather work from someplace cause my leather work SUCKETH MIGHTILY) The next photos are of the sterling silver throat on the sheath. This was made from 18 ga. 925 silver with the bezel made and roping set around the bezel mounts. The stone is a 74.8 Ct Star Sapphire that came from a very close friend of mine who owns a gem mine..I get some screaming deals, since I served with him when I was deployed in Desert Shield/Storm back in the day. The stone is then set in the throat and everything polished. To me NOTHING shines like silver. It is such a beautiful metal and a wonderful material to work with, The bezel itself is pure Cu (I used that for a colour offset/contrast) and the roping around the bezel is 14K yellow gold. A matching tip was also made from the same 925 silver sheet...both are cleaned, polished and buffed by hand.. As I said NOTHING to me shines like silver!! Next the grip ferrules are made from phosphor bronze sheet. This matches very closely the colour of the 14 K gold on the bezel roping and keeps the cost manageable. The grip is then cleaned, polished and buffed by hand to bring out the colour and depth of the wire wrapping. Damn I love a wire wrapped grip on a sword..just makes it feel so very "solid" in my hand..well..at least to me it does..Besides it looks really groovey... After the grip is done, cleaned and polished..and while the sheath mounts were being worked on..the guard and pommel were being blued in my "Vats of Doom"..my own special mix of blue salts (that I also use a different mix of for doing Hamons BTW). This results in a very deep Midnight Blue/Black that looks almost like black plastic. Looks GREAT with a wire wrapped grip. Pulls the whole Magilla "together" in a very visual way. Just looks "right" After everything is done..the leather is dyed and sealed/oiled..the sheath fittings are secured using a mix of a "key" atatchment and barge cement (this is covered in book IV...shameless, self serving plug here)...the sword is hard assembled, sharpened and it is done!! Granted it took a while but I am very happy with the results. Not too bad for an olde fart like me..so says I... Overall specs on the finshed sword are: Blade length: 36" grip length: 9" OAL: 48" It was some time in coming but I think it came out A-OK..will be delivered tomorrow to its owner..He is dropping by here to my place to pick it up and I might even give him the 25 cent tour of this place to boot!! Not that it is worth the 25 cents... Hope ya all can follow this..Let me know what ya all think... Wes Detrick
That is so sweet JPH! Collin Miller
Very nice, kind of a textbook longsword with a mythological twist. Great job on the wire wrap and the whole sword, be proud of it! “If you trust in yourself. . . believe in your dreams. . . and follow your star. . . you will still get beaten by the people who have spent their time working hard and learning things, the people who weren't so lazy.” ~ Terry Pratchett

(in other words I was a "baiter" as the fishing world says..) so be that as it may. I am however, VERY happy that you enjoyed the outcome of the labours of the work that went into this project..and I thank you for the kind words.. Kevin Colwell
that is a damn fine sword JPH.
