Tiger's Coffin

Recommended Posts

Been working on this bowie (still am), got mega inspired by Matt Lamey's bowies. Always wanted to do a coffin handle too, but hate how they are dead straight (haha) so I swept it a little. Hot punched the slot for the guard, then hot fit it to the tang. Pulled a piece of curly tiger stripe maple from my private stash, nicest maple I have ever seen personally.

I dig your bowie a lot Sam. I am with you on not liking the straightness of coffin handles, so I like the sway you added.

I love curly maple too. I bought 7 board feet of it last year, so I have plenty to make handles out of for quite some time.

Nice, I like the change to the handle, also prefer curves to dead straight!

That's nice- I think the sweep really makes it a better working design.

Wow, Sam! The in hand shot surprised me. When I first saw pics, I thought it was a smallish, elegant little thing. But it's huge! Still elegant, but wow, that's a beast!.

Thanks Tyler! it's fairly elegant still, thinner then you would think, slim handle. It's got presence though haha

That maple came out very nice Sam. I think this is the first piece of yours I've seen with a fitted guard, never mind this level of fit and finish. Good job!

Thanks Fellas! Bruce, yeah, i felt like stepping up a notch, the blade heat treated and gorund so well it deserved it. Plus I wanted a carry piece that was worth showing to people :D.
